Installation guide

How to load the Ultimate Vocal Chain presets in your DAW. Takes about five minutes the first time.

Before you start

  • A DAW that runs Waves plugins (VST3, AU or AAX).
  • Waves Central, Waves' installer app: waves.com/downloads/central.
  • The free StudioVerse Audio Effects plugin (called StudioRack before June 2024).
  • The Waves plugins used by the presets you want. They're listed per preset on the product page and in PLUGINS-PER-PRESET.txt inside your download.

1. Install StudioVerse and your Waves plugins

  1. Open Waves Central and sign in to your Waves account.
  2. Install StudioVerse Audio Effects (free) and the Waves plugins you own.
  3. Make sure the licenses are activated on this computer, then restart your DAW.

2. Unzip your download

Unzip ultimate-vocal-chain.zip to a folder you'll keep, for example Documents/CAS Presets. Don't load presets from inside the zip.

3. Load a chain on your vocal track

  1. Insert StudioVerse Audio Effects (or StudioRack) on your vocal track or mixer channel.
  2. In the plugin window, click the preset menu at the top (it shows Full Reset) and choose Load.
  3. Browse to the Presets folder and open a .xps file.

Where to insert it in your DAW

DAWWhere
FL StudioRoute the vocal to a Mixer track → empty FX slot → StudioVerse (VST3)
Ableton LiveBrowser → Plug-ins → Waves → drag StudioVerse onto the audio track
Logic ProAudio FX slot → Audio Units → Waves → StudioVerse
Pro ToolsInsert → Multichannel/Mono plug-in → Waves → StudioVerse (AAX)
Studio OneBrowser → Effects → Waves → drag StudioVerse onto the channel

4. Make it fit your song

  • Key and scale: most chains start with Waves Tune Real-Time. Set it to your song's key, or bypass it for a natural sound.
  • Input level: record with peaks around −10 to −6 dBFS. Too hot or too quiet changes how the compressors react.
  • Space: adjust reverb and delay mix to sit the vocal in your beat.
  • Adlibs: put adlib presets on separate adlib tracks, not on your lead.

Troubleshooting

A slot says the plugin is missing

That Waves plugin isn't installed or activated. Install it in Waves Central, restart your DAW, and reload the preset. You can also replace that slot with a similar plugin you own.

StudioVerse doesn't appear in my DAW

Rescan plugins in your DAW's plugin manager. On Apple Silicon Macs, make sure the DAW isn't running in Rosetta mode with a mismatched plugin version.

The preset sounds harsh or too quiet

Check your recording level first, then lower the de-esser threshold or the final compressor's gain to taste.
